Bulldog are rubbish

I never thought I’d be saying this considering I’ve previously praised the high quality of internet connectivity from this ISP, but I’ve completely had my fill with Bulldog customer services and billing. They are total crap.

This morning Matt received a letter from them asking for money stating we hadn’t payed for this month and threatened to cut us off (remember my last nightmare in this regard?). What is so annoying is two-fold. Firstly they were supposed to sort out the payment issues which prevented money going through last time we had issues with them (see link) but this letter clearly indicates they didn’t. Secondly after the last bout of problems (again, see link) they promised us a month of free service because of the trouble their crapped out billing system had caused us, but clearly we aren’t going to get our free month because if we were then the fact this months payment had failed wouldn’t be a problem.

Bulldog, you suck. I rely on my connectivity for personal and business reasons and although it pains me to say it, you are the only company that when the wire is connected can provide the level and quality of connection that I require. Its just a shame that your billing system believes it should pull the plug on my connection all the time because you screw it up.

Bottom line is that if you pull the plug on us again I’m going to get a leased line for my needs instead and bad-mouth you in every moment of free time that I have. Sure it won’t make a difference to you, sure you won’t care, but I’ll save my friends and colleagues from signing up to the grief associated with your crap billing and customer services and in so doing it’ll make me feel a whole lot better.

Hmmmm as you know I thought I was signing up with Bulldog, then discovered it was Pipex (who I believe own Bulldog) but the lead time to get me sorted was unacceptable. (I was having major connection problems with Tiscali so needed to move) and I eventually went with BT, Option 3.

I must say, not a single problem, the speed is superb and ok it’s costs me more but I would say worth every penny and they have a fantastic billing system.

My only problem is that not only do I need superb quality of service with respect to the connection but also unlimited data transfer with no “fair use policy”. This is because I run home servers and would burn up any kind of fair use limit before you could say Jack Robinson.

I do take your point though that there are ISPs out there that do provide a high connection quality at the same time as have good billing and customer support. Its just a shame that you tend to get bitten by the usage limits in the end.

I really struggle with BT, sure the connection is fairly stable and their customer services are adequate (I wouldn’t go so far as to say superb) but as Kieran says their fair use policy is ridiculously low. In fact I am really struggling to find any ISP that offers the levels of connection I need matched with the service I require in terms of contact and support.

At the monent, UK Online seems the best option, but if anyone has any ideas let me know.

I use UK Online, £19.99/month for their 8mbit connection.

They have a fair use policy but I’ve been informed by their customer services that it’s about 500GB a month.. probably even enough for Kieran’s uses 😉

Take a look at http://www.thephone.coop/. Absolutely brilliant. Customer service excellent and an excellent fair use policy.

I had a phone call last week, when i answered I was played a recorded message stating that this call was from Bulldogdsl please wait, any way after waiting 3 minutes a very cocky lady says “Hello! name please” , I ask her what she ment she rang me does she not know who I am, she states she does so I ask her who am I then as she called me, she told me she cannot release that information, I then asked her the first line of my address she said she couldnt release that either. She then asked me my address as she said she needed to confirm I was who I said I was. I told her I dont release this information to cold callers and how can I be sure she was from bulldog. She very cockly stated were I not to give her the information I would be cut off. (My credit card was updated and I had not updated the details on there system I didnt know that). Within 5 minutes of the phone call I was cut off.

The manners of bulldog was startling, the price I pay for there service even thought it is intermittent at times. I pay for the 16 meg connection and I am a web developer, they might say you get 16 meg connection but I live 90 meters away frmo one of the largest exchanges in London, I have all new wired appartment but I am lucky to get download speeds of 1 meg a second and upload speeds of 300kbs, the ping is only about 40. All is all bulldog is a lie and offers crap service and shocking manners.
